Island-Satteldecken sind gut geeignet für Isländer Sättel oder für einen Töltsattel. Dabei ist die Form der Satteldecke entscheiden. Bei einer normalen Springsatteldecke ist das Sattelblatt kürzer und die Rückenlänge der Springdecke meist so lang wie bei einer Dressurschabracke. Bei Islandsatteldecken hingegen ist das Sattelblatt entschieden länger. Hier ist die Länge ungefähr genauso lang wie bei einer normalen Schabracke für die Dressur.
Die Rückenlänge der Island-Satteldecke ist jedoch deutlich kürzer, da die Islandsättel kompakter geformt sind als unsere normalen englischen Sättel. Die Satteldecke wird für den Reitsport Islandreiten verwendet. Dabei sind die Isländer einer der wenigen Pferde auf der Welt, die noch 5 Gänge gehen können; Schritt, Trap, Galopp, Tölt und Rennpass. Um Tölt gut reiten zu können, verwenden erfahrene Reiter richtige ausgeprägte Islandsättel, auch Töltsättel genannt. Dabei können nicht normale Schabracken verwendet werden, sondern anders geformte Satteldecken für Isländer . Um ein Rutschen des Sattels beim Tölt zu vermeiden, können Island Satteldecken mit Anti-Rutsch Pad verwendet werden. Diese Pads sind bei der Sattellage aufgenäht und bestehen aus Zellkautschuk.
